Sure, if you will bait my hook. I hate to kill the little worms. And I don't skin fish either. I don't eat them either, I just like catching them! True.
Really, my recently deceased brother who was in a wheel chair loved to fish and hunt. With the help of my dad and 2 other brothers Bill got to do both the summer before he died. He was 59 and killed his first deer.

I went fishing a couple of years ago with my granddaughters in a tank (a pond) down here in South Texas. The tank had some big cat fish in it but all we caught were little fish my granddaughter called sunfish.
My oldest granddaughter, about eight at the time, is very into animals of all kinds and wants to be a vet. She is a vegetarian and has been since she was quite small. It surprised me she even wanted to fish but she did and let us know we had to release unharmed any fish we caught. And, we had to make sure we didn't hurt them when we took the hook out. I know this is pretty childish but she was a small child and that's the way a small child thinks.
We did okay for quite a while and I did most of the unhooking and baiting. We were using worms and I wasn't allowed to hurt the worms either. Yeah right!
There were fish that couldn't be saved. Some were dead when they were landed. In order to keep my oldest granddaughter from getting upset, I hid the fact those fish had died. You might ask how. I stuck them in my pocket. Talk about creepy!

I am able to go, just don't have the time, working two jobs. I finally sold my bass boat, and experienced the second happiest day of a boat owners life.
You mentioned the Delta, would that be the Mobile Delta. That is where I fish when I get a chance, My favorite place has been renamed, we used to call it something else, less appropriate than its present name, Le Bayou *****. We referred to it as a lake.
I hope my grandchildren are as thoughtful as you were, when the time comes that I can no longer go by myself.

My wife used to take off fishing after a bad day at work (sold life insurance for 8 years). She and my son used to go a lot. We had about 15 fishing rigs until I gave some away on freecycle.org (should be an outfit in YOUR area, too) but we still have at least 6 or so still in the garage. She still likes to go, but hasn't been since going with her mom and sister a few years ago in Missouri. I get antsy. No fish in 1/2 hour, I'm ready to go.

Your family is to be commended! Too many elderly or disabled people are dismissed as "too much trouble" these days.
I have very limited mobility. Fishing has always been a passion for me. I have a friend who takes me fishing at least once a week. She carries all my tackle to the bank and then I walk down on my walker. We fish all day long. It's a real blessing!

I still do a little trout fishing when the mood strikes me, which isn't often. The gas prices are keeping me a lot closer to home than they once did.
