Why so much halo hype?

Is there really that big a fan base or is it Microsofts attempt to overtake Sony and up the ante with this next gen war?

halo has a massive fan base. nearly everyone who owns a xbox has halo and there will be a big surge of people buying a 360 when it's released. (notice how microsoft have brought out the xbox elite just before halo is released)

I was never a gamer until I started playing the Halo 3 beta. That game is amazing! COD4 looks to be pretty good as well

Halo is just plain and simple FUN!! You can't beat it, specially online!
