My mom and me babysit. And we watch my niece and my nephew as well. My newphew (Lucas) is almost 9 months and he won't do anything! He can't even sit up by himself! You can sit him there yourself and he'll sit up but then he goes back down as if hes to lazy. He only rolls where he wants to go. And its like he has no desire to crawl or do anything. How can we help him to crawl and do some new moves. I know that he'll be ready when he is but goodness almost 9 months! I try putting him on his hands and knees but he just slides right back down. All he does is roll roll rollllllll where he wants to go! Help!

Babies aren't lazy. If he's not meeting his developmental milestones, he needs to be evaluated for developmental delays, because early intervention is crucial when a child isn't meeting their milestones.

If he's rolling to get somewhere, though, that's perfectly normal. Some babies don't crawl until late, and others never crawl at all. You can't force a baby to learn something when they're not ready.... it's all on their terms.

Nine month old babies are not lazy. Try playing with him. He's not going to do it by himself. Get down on the floor and encourage him. His mom should be taking him in for routine check ups. The doctors will be checking to make sure he is meeting certain milestones. As long as the doctor isn't worried then you shouldn't be either. Your nephew probably rolls so much, not because he is lazy, but because it is more efficient. I have know babies who were such fast crawlers that even after they learned to walk they would sometimes crawl when they were in a hurry because they could do it faster.

some babies never crawl. All of my children did, but I didn't as a baby, my mom said I just rolled wherever I wanted to go and then one day I pulled my self up and started to walk. My best friends child is the same way, just rolls everywhere. I don't think it is anything to be super concerned about as long as he is getting lots of floor time. If his parents and doctors aren't concerned then it is probably no big deal. Some children are just content. My youngest child is kind of like this, I put her on the floor on her tummy and she just sucks her thumb has no desire to learn how to roll. He is probably just really laid back.

Dragonchilde is right there is either a delay. and not all babies reach each stage at the same time as other babies do.

my son who is 6 months is not teething yet while a baby in his day care ( a friends of mine) is 3 weeks younger then my son and she has three teeth coming in. all you can do is git down on the floor with him and encourage him to do this stuff and wait because if your pushing him he will sense this and get frustrated.
