Anything by Anna Quinlan, John Irving or John Grisham.
If you like chick-lit - the Shopaholic series by Sophia Kinsella, anything by Jennifer Weiner or Jodi Picoult.
Dave Sedaris books are great humor essays.

if you are into thrillers you should give john connelly a go. his first is called every dead thing. he keeps you on the edge of your seat! if you like romances then i suggest anything by kathleen.e. woodiwiss. or if you like a fast light read give jackie collins a go her books are nice and trashy - full of glamour and goss. the series by anne rice which begins with the witching hour are a mad read too. best wishes and happy reading.

I recently read "The Stupidest Angel" by Christopher Moore and I loved it.
I also love any book by Tim Dorsey, his stories are twisted and hysterical.

"Atonement" by Ian McEwan
I've just read it today and the film's out now, too. It's beautifully written.
Also, read "The Bridges of Madison County" - that always makes me cry.
How about "Angela's Ashes" by Frank McCourt? That makes me sad, laugh, cry - and then you can read his subsequent and related books.
