Ok miss, this is YOUR daughter not someone else's. So don't be listening to someone else. Think about the good and bad if you let her have AIM or not such as she can connect with friends, but then strangers and or she`ll be left out, and protected from strangers. Ma`am this is your choice, you can`t listen to people on the internet they only give you their opinions, just think about the situation and either yes or no, I think it should be fine.

Yes, I think 11 is old enough, my sister and I were allowed AIM and MSN messangers at 11. The only thing is, you monitor who is on her contact list, and make sure she isnt going in chat rooms with anyone other than her friends.

I think so, if she wants to. She can choose who to add so shes not at any risk, just make sure she is smart about not putting any personal details (e.g. address, school) out there if she does talk to strangers. And dont be worried if she spends a lot of time on it at first, she will probably get bored after a while.

nope.. mine is 13 and she doesnt have it..
dont let kids bully you into thinking they "need" something - all they need is food shelter and water.. clothing too I guess...
some of these girls are down right nasty on the computer.. I have seen some myspace stuff that is horrible - kids say stuff that is WAY too personal to be written where somebody else can copy and paste it for others to see.. they think its private but you dont know who is sitting with the person at the other end - kids can try to trick other kids to talking about somebody who is sitting right there... its bad...
look after your kid - dont expect the computer to do it.. allow phone converstions - not internet ones.

yes, dont listen to those people saying wait till ishe's 13
aim is actually a really great program
let ur kid have one, she will get wayy better typing practice, i was such a slow typer until i started aim
and make sure she knoes not to talk to strangers, and everyone knows u cant meet someone u met on aim
thats it
u dont even have to know her password, wats the point, its not like ur going to go on aim and talk to her friends, even if u have it, NEVER GO ON HER SCREENNAME
ever!!
its a violation of privacy
give it to her!!

I got an aim at age 12. One condition only: my parents got to know my password and I could only talk to kids at school. I would say yes, but just whenever she goes on it read the chat logs.

as long as you monitor her and make sure she isn't talking to strangers it's ok,....I would wait until she was 13 but that's just me. If you aren't comfortable with it then just say no...what's the worst that could happen...She'll be upset for a few days and then she'll get over it.

my mom got me a screen name when i was nine. through the years my mom allowed me to download new aims. im and now 13 and i have aim 6.0. by the time i was eleven, i had a decent aim, so yes, its safe as long as she doesnt answer to users she doesnt know. that would be good. its up to you.

yea just every now & again just ask who she is talking to or look at the screen but its important to NOT hold your child back on that kind of stuff or they will learn to sneak behind your back & cause trouble
