For the same reason a lot of people with motorcycles don't ride them...it's too cold, too hot, too windy, too much rain, they predict rain, that one little cloud up there could have a drop or two in it, too much traffic, the road's too rough, there might be a little gravel on the road, the road is gravel, too many crazy drivers out there, there could be crazy drivers out there, I once heard there was a crazy driver out there, too dark, too many deer out at night, too many deer out in the morning, too many deer out at anytime, my destination is too far away, it's not far away enough to make it worth my time, don't want to get my bike dirty, it's too dirty to be seen out in public, the seat is too hard, I could be hit by a Junebug or a swarm of lovebugs and on and on and on. These people think owning a bike makes them a biker but they're wrong. Real bikers make it a point to ride and the brand or size of bike they own is irrelevant despite what some people think.

Comfort and convenience plus a lot of people are afraid of motorcycles.
Check out some of the questions in the car section. At least one a day asking if someone knows the crash rating of a particular car? In my opinion what does it matter what the crash rating is? Drive safely and AVOID the crash. People are adjusting their driving habits on the fact that CARS are safer to drive because of all the safety features. The more safety features it has the less they worry about other vehicles around them except of course if that other vehicle is a semi. That's why most people don't ride bikes. No safety features and a lousy crash rating. And rain. They can't drive a car in rain what the heck are they going to do on a bike??

For the security of protection against an accident.
If you wipe out a motor bike your will have less chance of living then if you have the same accident with a car, cars have air bags and a barrier between you and the road on all sides. Bikes don't!
Some people drive just to get where they are going safely not to have fun. Driving isn't fun for everyone.

Yeah what you suggest seems to be so much more logical than the reality. However a motorbike is much more of a personal choice than a car. A car provides a certain element of security that a motorbike just cannot. I for one am not a great fan of motorbikes, always cutting me up on the road, sneaking ahead of me in traffic jams, squealing past me out of nowhere disturbing my karma. That's just to name a few reasons for my 'grumpy old man' dislike of them!

There are many reasons:
-Danger. Don’t kid yourself. There are MANY risks with riding a motorcycle
-Weather (rain, snow, cold)
-Luggage. Bikes have limit storage
-Convenience. Bikes require safety gear and it takes time to get “suited up”. Unlike a car where you can buckle up, start the engine, and drive off
-Parking. Bikes are much more likely to be jacked or stolen. I’ve never feared for a belonging until I started parking my bike in the city.
I’m sure we could keep going, but I made my point..

they dont have the balls #1, the way some drive cages they'd wind up on the pavement #2, there's no way of using their ipod, cell phone, or pda. most bikes dont have any place to put a cup of coffee down.
riding 2 up is alot different than riding solo. other downsides: objects...any objects hurt when u hit them at 45+, rain feels like needles if u dont have a face shield helmet, and hail will get u a world of pain. forget the sunscreen, and u will soon look like a boiled lobster.

a million) vehicles could look safer yet they are able to inflict greater injury to different vehicles, pedestrians and motorbikes. In that experience, vehicles are a lot greater risky to different highway clients than motorcycles - yet no-one looks to care approximately different highway clients, basically themselves. 2) Motorbikes are not 'shelter' as long as you place on a helmet. no longer whether you place on finished leathers, effect secure practices on shoulders, elbows, decrease back, chest, hip, knee and positioned on gloves and boots. I do and that i think a ways from shelter.... 3) vehicles are harder to rigidity? you're having a chortle, mate. vehicles are a ways much less complicated to rigidity - too common - that's why motor vehicle drivers make telephone calls, play around with their mp3 gamers, look everywhere yet alongside the line forward (uninteresting) and so on and so on. you will no longer fall off a motor vehicle at a junction, you will no longer even know you're working on the moist centreline painted on the line in a motor vehicle on a bend...on a bike, you recognize to no longer pass there. that is obtrusive to me which you may not journey a bike, yet motorbike riders 'see' 10 circumstances as a lot stuff obtainable as motor vehicle drivers. we could desire to. besides, vehicles are safer. they're additionally gradual, cumbersome, ineffective in heavy site visitors, uninteresting to function and that they 'turn off' the driving force's suggestions. to alleviate your self of this trudgery, you get a bike - finding out to purchase and advertising a level of secure practices alongside the way.

Riding a bike is both a skill and a sport; not everyone is up to it. There's also an inherent danger that a lot of people aren't willing to deal with. I ride regularly in heavy Dallas traffic; it doens't bother me, I just have to be extra alert. That would totally freak out a lot of riders I know.

Actually, I used to ride on a motor bike.
Every time I went from a tar road to a
dirt road, the bike ended up on top of
me.
I really don't remember it being all that
much fun.
