Total distance = S walk + S run
= vt (walk) + vt(run)
= (1.22m/s)(67.8s) + (3.05m/s)(67.8s)
= 82.7m + 206.79m
= 289.49m
Average velosity = 289.49m / 135.6s
= 2.13m/s

Simple: 1.13 + 3.05 divided by 2.

4.18 / 2 = 2.09

This is possible because the times are same. If they were different, we need to use weighted average.

OK you could do this with equations, but it is easier to just notice that you moved at one speed half the time and then at another speed half of the time.

Therefore, the speed that you ran would be equal to the value directly in the middle of your two speeds. So, you have:

v(avg) = ( 1.13 m/s + 3.05 m/s ) / 2
v(avg) = ( 4.18 m/s ) / 2
v(avg) = 2.14 m/s .... ANSWER
