About a year and a half ago, i planted 1 seed from a supermarket lemon in a pot (just for fun!). Well, the seed germinated and now I have a sturdy 9-inch tall lemon sapling. I was wondering if I should start thinking about fertilizing yet, and if so, how often and what kind? All help is appreciated! Thanks:)

With all due respect to you and answer number one, please do not urinate on it, or any plant,,,sigh.

Your fortunate that it is what it is, especially from seed; but the likelyhood of ever bearing fruit from it is nil.

In any event it may be that pollination is possible, if it lasts 2 years or more, and you have the ability.

LEMON: the most acidic of all Citrus, doesn't strictly need more acid to help it remain healthy, and certainly there are dozens of Citrus fertilizers available that are balanced; for its health.

If you've given it decent soil, and proper drainage; haven't noticed yellowing, or browning; unusual leaf drop; a general dilluted solution in your watering scheme will be fine. Here in FL; citrus grows adequately in the worst of soils.

Without knowing at all where you are, my first suggestion would be contact your local AGRI center. Obviously if you live in a climate not usually suited to citrus, you may always have to keep it indoors? It will need re-potting on occasion, if you keep it alive; and makes a pretty nice tree, no matter fruit or not.

during the growing season only ( do not fertilize between October and February ) use a 20 - 20 - 20 fertilizer according to the label instructions. but i would water the instructions down by almost 1/4 and use it every time i watered.

Plant it if you can and then pee on it! The acid from urine is the best thing and it keeps the bugs off. No joke!! If that doesn't work for you, then Miricle grow dilute 1:2 is the next best thing. Good Luck!
