rule of thumb...1 1/8mph is 1 knot.

but the equation is...

Kts X 1.1507771555 = Mph

Round it off for a pretty darn close guess... kts x 1.2 = mph

Measure it all in feet. Nautical miles are 6000-5280 on land. You do the math.
