There have been 276 occurrances.
19 people have done it twice and 3 people have done it three times.
So, 251 people have hit for the cycle.

I think it is only impressive because it is pretty rare. But not really rare enough to make it that special.
Interestingly, it is nearly twice as rare as hitting 3 home runs in a game which has been done 480 times (see below) to 276 cycles. I think people would rather see a 3 homer game than a cycle.
I think it is more rare than a no-hitter, historically. Although with hitting the way it is today, no hitters are probably going to be more rare for quite a while.
Really it is a flukey thing rather than a real feat. I mean, what is better - someone hitting for the cycle or someone gettting a HR, a triple and two doubles in a game?
I was at Fenway in 1988 (I think) when Mike Greenberg hit for the cycle. That was an oddity since he was pretty slow and very rarely hit triples and hit maybe 20 homers a year. The triple came early and it was kind of a wind-blown fly ball that the center fielder missplayed. It could have been called a double plus and error. If it had been the last part of the cycle, maybe their would have been a stink about the call but I think it was his first hit and nobody thought twice about it. But I don't think that hitting the cycle really meant that Greenberg was a better hitter. Certainly it didn't mean as much as if he had hit 3 homers in that game.

RE:
How many MLB players have hit for the cycle?
In my opinion, the cycle is one of the hardest things to accomplish in MLB. I wonder how many times it has actually been accomplished by one player and if anyone of those players has accomplished this feat more than once.

Some players have hit 4 home runs in a game but never a home run cycle.

276 players have hit for the cycle.
Most recently, Baltimore's Aubrey Huff.
There have been 3 occurrences this year so far.
The whole list can be found in my source.

There are plenty of players who have hit for the cycle on multiple occasions.

I agree with you. And I think the hardest part of the cycle to get is a triple. doubles, singles, and homers are easy compared to triples. Most players rarely get triples.
