There was a special on my local radio station this morning regarding swingers. They said that 9 million couples in the U.S. "swing" on a regular basis! Does anyone here swing or know anything about it? I am not at all interested in doing it but just thought it would be nice to see who all has experienced this type of lifestlye?

For the sake of my answer let me first start by defining the term "swinger": swinging is when a married or otherwise committed couple engages in sex with other couples or singles.

So even a threesome between a committed couple and a single is technically "swinging".

I would actually put the number closer to around 1.1 million or 0.5% of the adult population or 1 out of every 200 couples are consider themselves "swingers". This is based on my observation of the number of couples in my state that have profiles on swinger's dating sites vs. the adult population of the state.

The number can be skewed though because according to several sex surveys many couples have at one time or another had at least a threesome, but most of those don't consider themselves "swingers" even though they have swung or are technically swinging now.

The 9 million figure puts the total "swinging" population at about 4% or in other words 1 out of every 25 couples swings. Which adding-in those couples that swing but don't label themselves swingers makes this number seem reasonable.

My wife and I have been swingers (and consider ourselves as such) for about four years now. We've been together 10 and married for 7, and there's no end in sight to our relationship. We were very happy and very sexually satisfied with each other before we started swinging and we are even more so now. We started swinging because we both had fantasies that included more than just two people, not because we were bored with each other or trying to "spice-up" our sex life. Unfortunately some couples do it for that reason and it usually ends bad, and of course that is the reason the general non-swinging public thinks people swing, like their relationship is dysfunctional or that they don't really love each other.

In reality, the majority of swingers start for the same reason we did. To expand our sexual play, together. To fulfill sexual fantasies, together. And the majority of swingers have great , secure marriages. In fact it's been estimated that the divorce rate is around 15% within the swinging community, 3-times less than the general population. Why? Because swingers, for the most part have moved beyond the distrust and petty jealousies that tear so many couples apart.

I have a friend who swings and I personally couldn't even fathom sharing my husband with anyone. Sex is nothing I want to do with anyone but my man.

not me... my hubby wants a threesome with another woman but he doesn't want another man touching me...

So maybe we would with a girl couple.
