Botsakis G – Honestly, this question was in response to a rash of “liberal patriots’” questioning America’s right to posses nuclear weapons.

It's not ok. I think EVERYONE should get rid of their nukes. They are designed for nothing but killing huge ammounts of civilians by dropping them on population centers (Hiroshima and Nagasaki) and they make the area radioactive for years to come. They have no military value and are purely instruments of murder.

There are at least 9 nations with nuclear weapons. The only one ever to have used them is the USA. Did you know, that many Actors from the 50's and 60" died on cancer, because they filmed in Arizona, the main testing ground for nukes? Enriched Uranium, which is the material used in this bombs, can kill for up to 40 years, once a bomb is exploded. During an explosion, material is released into the atmosphere, and will go with the prevailing winds all over the planet.

1. No one can do anything about it.
2. Russia is trustworthy enough to not arm a terrorist group with such weapons.
Note: Item 2 is the real reason most of the world has a problem with Islamic nations having nukes. Their leaders might wake up some day with "a vision" on how to change the world.

No one can take them from them. They are a country they can do anything they want. Why would they not be allowed? They were the first to make a nuclear power plant. I'm missing the problem here?

Who sad it was okay. I don't think any nation should have them, but that's a whole other issue. However to answer your question; they were developing an atom bomb around the same time the US was, we just got lucky and beat them to it.
As to thier intentions who knows, my guess is thier goal was the same as ours, to emerge from WWII as the most powerful nation in the world, with the most powerful deadly weapon in the world.

Before I will answer that, perhaps you could answer this first: "Why is it ok for the US or Britain to have nuclear weapons?". And "Why is it not ok for Russia or China to have nuclear weapons?".
"Which country would be fair enough to decide which countries must have nuclear weapons and which countries mustn't have them?".

The bottom line is, it isn't. However, if I am asked who would I rather see have nuclear weapon capability, would it b
a. People who have a differing political/economic system and want to convert us to that system and arm themselves in a similar manner to ourselves.
or
b. People who are fanatical in their hatred of others, particularly Israel, the USA and Great Britain and want us utterly destroyed
my guess is that most people will choose option a

I agree with the first answer.
I think weapons of any kind are bad...they just cause more violence around the world which leads to hatred among people.

They are not allowed to make any more, but they are allowed to keep their old ones, just like the US, UK, France, China, India, Pakistan, North Korea, and Israel. Russia is no different.
