why is the white house called the white house.

The house originally was a light pink color. After the British burned it during the war of 1812 they needed to repaint it. They had white paint and so it was painted white. It has remained white ever since. Tradition. Nothing but tradition says it has to be white. It could be purple, for that matter, but then it would be called the president's house as it originally was and that just sounds weird.

I think the slaves came up with that term.there's whitey's house.kind of like "boss hog" no place for any color,
