Hi i keep reptiles and always have a bottle of vetadine just in case something nasty occurs on one of my pets. This is mostly for mouth rot and shell rot in turtles. It is what you get from the vets but people are selling legitimate bottles of it on eBay, it is not a prescription thing. It is a mixture of povidone iodine and available iodine. You just put it on some cotton wool and apply it to the affected area a couple of times a day. The bottle says it is highly effective wound antiseptic with potent microbial activity against bacteria, fungi, yeasts, protozoa and some viruses.
It really does work too.

A better answer than Neosporin is Betadine Solution (Providone iodine). Swab the shell, let dry for about 2 hours, return to the water, and repeat daily.

You can also try Turtle Sulfa Dip, use per directions.

Now- there is a reason this is happening- something is wrong with the set-up or diet. Try http://www.redearslider.com and see what needs to be tweaked.
