Assuming someone's pregnant when they're not?

Question

Have you ever commented to a stranger about their pregnancy and then found out that they aren't pregnant?

Has anyone ever assumed you were pregnant when you're not?

How has this made you feel? What has your reaction been?

I only once asked a woman if she was pregnant when she wasn't... and that was because she was in the infant section of the Burlington Coat Factory, and she was wearing a maternity shirt. She asked when I was due, I told her and asked if she was expecting too, and she was not. I didn't think she looked pregnant but thought maybe she was in the early stages, before showing. Still, I felt bad that she probably thought I asked because she looked pregnant. Turned out she had already had her baby about 2 months prior. She didn't act upset.

I am a big girl... I have never been asked if I was pregnant when I wasn't... but then again, people couldn't tell I was pregnant when I was 7 or 8 months along... which is almost as bad. When your body is so fat that a big pregnant belly looks like it fits right in... depressing.

It just makes you kick yourself for letting your weight get so out of control that it changes how people perceive you.

I haven't personally asked anyone but i used to work in quite a posh hotel and we had a wedding reception in one saturday, one of the waitresses i was working with was pregnant and it made her obsessed with babies, she asked one of the guests when her baby was due. The lady looked puzzled and said "i'm not pregnant, but i did have a miscarrige last year". Lets just say after that no matter how obviously pregnant ladies were she never opened her mouth again. Also about 3 weeks after having my daughter somebody i hadn't seen for a while asked me when my baby was due and i felt really offended as other people started laughing.

I never did it, but someone did it to me.

I was sitting in a restraunt and the waitress asked if I was pregnant. I was 15 and as skinny as I could be! I think it must have been the way I was sitting, but that was still kind of embarrassing. Now I just laught about it, but I would never do it to somebody else.

because of the fact it has develop into socially acceptable. I do disagree with it merely because of the fact a woman dresses and acts like a woman does not mean she is in a position to do what a woman does which includes motherhood. I learned my lesson after a teacher when i was school looked heavily pregnant! everyone was suspicious that she was expecting but no one asked her because she hadnt told us. a year later she still looked 8 months gone, so it was obvious she wasnt. someone then blurted out that she was very very overdue and it obviously upset her. since then im always careful and i wait for someone to tell me rather than assume and ask. i have been told i looked pregnant years ago, but then 'sorry no it just looks like fat' which really upset me. but then i later on found out i have pid which has caused me to be very bloated and look pregnant at times, so it doesnt bother me anymore. plus ive lost lots of weight since theres hardly anything to me now lol.

I've always been very careful because you never know anymore. I usually wait until a person says they are before I go out with the congrats and tell others that I am as well. It's kind of an exciting thing and most people like to share.

oh, I saw this happen once...It was so bad

I was working at a pre-school and so there were a lot of mums and fairly often one or more of them was pregnant...

One of my co-workers, who is also a mum had a really large belly.... but I just knew it was a weight issue...

We had each session 'helper mums' who would come and wash paint pots and that sort of thing...On one occasion, one of the mums was standing in the kitchen with my colleague and went over..rubbed this womans tummy and said. 'wow, you look like you're gonna pop soon.. when are you due, by the look its today!' she just firmly put her foot in it..

I just pertended not to hear, my colleague just said..IM NOT PREGNANT....!! the poor mum just went so blush, I felt so bad for her... But

The co-worker went on one hell of a diet and fitness plan and slimmed down loads, so it helped!!

I have a very slim build, but a round tummy.. People often assume that I am pregnant. Needless to say this is very embarrassing!!! It make me feel so insecure...

i once thought that someone was pregnant.i had to apology for ages.serves me right but my friend has forgiven me now.all i know is that she felt terrible for some reason.i am happy that all is well now.

it was so funny...my friend works in a supermarket and she was on the tills one day. she was serving a lady and she said to her "so when is the baby due". The customer who she was serving turned round and said that she wasnt pregnant!!! my god i wish i could have been there!! hahahahahaha
