hey, I have a 96 Impala ss, the problem is that my power steering, or somthing is failing. When I slow down my steering wheel gets so hard to turn. But when I accelerate, the steering wheel goes back to normal. I checked the power steering fluid, and everything looks fine---> can overfilling cause problems? please help this is very dangerous... thanks!

Inspect the belt & tension, may be slipping

You problem could be any of the things the folks listed above.

Best to take it in and get it fixed. If the pump is going bad your can be damaging the rack and pinion and then the repair will cost more.

Get on it.

Have your pump checked if your not leaking fluid it is probably the belt. You should have your rack checked as well if the wheel pulls or the car seems out of alignment the rack is probably going.

Sounds like the pump is going bad.I'm not sure if this car has rack and pinion steering or not but if so that could be going bad.It is one of the two,and neither one should be too expensive to replace.

Didn't GM recall the squad cars for this same problem?
