We have no idea what Bush was thinking then and in real life it's not particularly relevant. Many people at the time served in the navy and air force where the chances of being blown into spit and air were a lot less than serving in the marinies or the infantry. What is relevant is 'now'. Supposedly Bush is 'serving his country' as a public official....at least that's what he's drawing a salary for. I suspect that his idea what a 'public official' should do is to serve the interests of the reactionary right, the Oil and Coal mafias and the 'Last Days Jesus freaks'. I can't blame a person for what they did way back when, but it's disgusting what Bush and his junta of cold war retreads are doing NOW to our country. Send this bum back to Texas..the sooner the better.

It amazes me that people think attacking Kerry or Clinton is relevant.

Clinton was basically a draft dodger- fine. I'll admit that with no problem.

Kerry was not nearly as honorable as he pretends and the man is clearly an idiot-I dont think he intended to insult the troops on a few occasions, he's just even worse as a public speaker than Bush.

Now, can we at least admit that Bush used his connections to get a laid back division of the Guard, to avoid fighting, then failed to show up all the time? Everyone makes mistakes-maybe if his could be admitted instead of hidden behind attacks he would be a better President.

I know he did not spend one day on the combat field. He spent his time in the Air Guard of Texas. His father who was in Congress at the time, probably did all that he could to prevent from serving a tour of duty in Vietnam.

This President is so full of hypocrisy, because he is so ready to send people off to die in Iraq.

He is the worst President this Country has ever had.

Well, he didn't go AWOL from Vietnam, he was never sent over there. He apparently just didn't show up for all of his National Guard duty.

We would have won that war if we had used nukes. That would have taught them a lesson they would have never forgot. On the side of the bomb we would have wrote- Dont Share the Rice!

You're like four years late asking this question. It has LONG been resolved. Next are you going to ask about Pet Rocks, or Pee Wee Herman, or Watergate? Come on guy, try posting a question with a little substance next time around.

can anyone justify going into vietnam in the first place? you can't win a war when there is nothing to gain from it.
