On the way to work this morning, a pickup truck's back tire started to smoke and then WHAM! it just ripped off the wheel!
Thankfully there was no accident (he was in the right lane and got off the roadway easily) and the tire bounced across the roadway without incident (and right in front of my car!).
Has this happened to you?

Yes, too many to list...I use to live in south GA where there are a lot of trucks moving through. Recaps fly off of them all the time, and once my SUV did get hit by one flying off...thankfully no accidents and no damage!
I am glad that you are Ok and nobody around was hurt!

No, but a good friend of mine won
$20,000 and bought a newer car
he was going down the road and
a 18 wheeler was in front of him
one of the tires came off the 18 wheeler
hit his car and totalled it, thankfully they were ok but that was 2 months ago and they still don't have a car....=-(

Yes! About a month ago a UPS truck was going down the road and the tire blew. Like you, there was no accident but I felt so bad for him. I must admit it was pretty cool to see though.

Yes. Scary, isn't it? I saw a big rig's tire shred and debris went flying all over. Except I didn't realize right away that it was his tire-- I thought it was garbage or something already on the road. He was able to pull over with no trouble. Still-- YIKES.

I'm a truck driver. I've seen tires come to bits in all sorts of differant ways.

I have seen a tire rip apart on a semi-truck, but it didn't cause an accident.

I've seen that and it was a big rig, a peice of the tire hit my car and bounced off and he pulled over so no one got hurt that time either. scary though.

i'm on the highway all the time and 18 wheelers do that all the time i have to avoid them.. the truckers call them alligators on the road.
