Can anyone suggest anything please? I have to keep tightening the fixings and I'm getting a bit fed up with it. I don't want to change the seat as it's a pretty one with swimming dolphins.Thanx.

A quick and easy fix requires a trip to the hardware store.

Are the bolts holding the seat plastic or metal?

You want to pick up two more nuts plastic or metal that match the threads on the bolt of your seat. Back off the two that are on the seat and run the two new nuts all the way up and tighten them, you don't have to use gorilla strength, they just need to be tight. Now, reinstall the first two and tighten them down.

The reason this works is that the first set of nuts will take the wear from the seat moving, but the second set will hold the first pair fast.

We use the same kind of fix on bolts that are likely to back of due to vibration.

The original nuts: Do they have ears or wings? On newer seats, the replacement nuts have at least one wing. As the bolts are tightened, the wing comes to rest against a stop, already made on the underside of the lip of the bowl. IF the originals have a wing, make sure that as you retighten the nuts, them come to rest agains the stop, this will really help to prevent seat slippage due to the nuts backing out.

I hope this helps you.

Most toilet seats use the same bolt thread. Buy another set and put a second nut on each bolt. The second nut should keep the first one from loosening. Also, if you have plastic bolts, try replacing them with brass.

If tightening the fasteners with a screwdriver isn't working, go to your local Hardware store and purchase a roll of pipe thread. Place it on the screws of the seat fasteners and then tighten again. This should give you a permanent fix. Beware it will be difficult to remove once you tire of the "swimming dolphins" LOL!!

A rubber washer or even a small amount of silicone caulk will prevent them from loosening.
