If not one of their dreams, big or small, come true? Or if they live their entire lives without love and/or support from others? Can the frustration drive a person insane?

Reading some of the answers and laughing....does someone have to be talking about themselves in order to ask a question? And it's not about anyone else I know either. Some answers are good though!

I think you can. It's all in the outlook you take. You learn to rely on yourself for happiness. That's the way it should be. As far as you dreams you have some say in your future. Just because things don't always turn out the way you want them to doesn't mean your life is a failure or that your dreams are over. I read an article online the other day where a lady was 98 years old and got her High School diploma!!! So sometimes your dreams don't happen as soon as you want them to but we all need goals to reach out for everyday. Don't ever give up if the question is about you.... if it's about someone else encourage them. You are never too old to keep striving for excellence. Good Luck

Difficult question indeed, but I would have to say it's entirely possible, even if it doesn't sound all that probable!

Having a life that's exactly the way you want it doesn't always bring unbridled happiness. Some people who have achieved all the goals they have set themselves and/or who live entirely blessed and fortunate existences remain unhappy/unstable. Others can struggle with what seem like insurmountable difficulties and hardships and yet remain upbeat and positive about their experiences.

What I guess must happen in some instances is that people constantly have a change of priorities. It may be the case that some will convince themselves that they outcome they wanted is somehow "not to be" and, believe it or not, take some sort of comfort from that.

I seriously doubt that NOTHING in life goes the way you want or that you have lived your ENTIRE life without love and support. Aren't these really exaggerations and not the accurate truth?

If you survived infancy, well, some one(s) were at least supporting you a lot, otherwise you would have starved to death shortly after birth. Your depression will improve if you start challenging the accuracy of your false beliefs. You are a illustrating perfectly the concept of "all or nothing" thinking or "black and white" thinking where someone believes inaccurately that if they don't have everything they want, then they have nothing that they want. It's a common belief of depressed people. By challenging the inaccuracy of your thoughts you can improve your mood.

It's not an all or nothing world so I doubt that NOTHING ever goes right in someone's life. That would be impossible. So, if you're just feeling sorry for yourself, here's a newsflash--you need to stop looking for love and support from others, get off your *ss and MAKE your dreams come true. Nothing is going to fall into your lap, you have to WORK for your dreams.

Ever read the book "A Child Called It"? It proves that humans have the will to survive no matter what the circumstances. Many successful people have come from nightmarish beginnings. (Good book, btw)

After I got married, nothing went right for 50 years. Then she ran off with a trucker and took all the savings, my car and cut up my clothes.
Nothing can be a strong motivator for some. For others , they perfer death.

no, frustration can not derive the person insane. Only severe traumas may do so. frustration is something positive, it is the beginning of creation after total destruction. it is just what makes us better. if it were not for frustration, we would learn anything. just think how many times you had got frustrated before you knew how to write your name. How many times you fell before you could walk easily...
