people will have suntanned bodies and they will know that I did not go on a holiday and I will feel embaressed/ashamed. What should I do? Just to prove that I am social and went on a holiday, should I go on a summer holiday?

You have a "different" kind of mind, I'll say that. I have never given one second to worrying about the consequences of returning to work from vacation with or without a tan. If you think people will notice your state of tanning and be critical of you for not having one you are seriously mistaken. Believe me, no one at work will care if you have a tan or not. If someone does comment, its likely to be nothing more than a conversation starter. You put way too much meaning in this. It's definitely overracting to be "embarrassed/ashamed".

So, becasue you do not have a tan, you would be ashamed?..You don't want people to know you did'nt go on a summer holiday?..
Who cares if other people went on summer holidays..not everyone does that. I personally prefer my holidays in the fall. There is no shame in when you take your hoildays!..No one is that petty (i would hope) on when you take your hoildays, or if you have a tan.

Hey girl, don't worry about what other's think. It's your holiday away from work and your co-workers. If you want to spend it at home relaxing, that's a perfectly great idea. I wouldn't advise working through your holiday, but again that's your business. Live for yourself.
