Dictionary.com says pride is "a high or inordinate opinion of one's own dignity, importance, merit, or superiority, whether as cherished in the mind or as displayed in bearing, conduct, etc." As your question suggests, pride is quite popular in hell. The rebellion in heaven was over the question of whether Lucifer and his followers deserved a high opinion of themselves as important angels, God's equals.
Traditional Christian ethics lists pride among the deadly sins that prevent having a good relationship with God. If we say to ourselves, "what a good person I am," "look at my good deeds," etc., we're not giving God credit.
Mary, Jesus' mother, is a wonderful example of humility. She called herself God's servant and gave him credit for everything she accomplished. That's a much better way to be happy than taking pride in oneself for accomplishments that depend on God's intellectual gifts, God's creative power, and God's plan for our happiness and success.

Well
Pride can be many things
it depends on your purpose
Concrete, Being a proud Christian is Good
But being such a proud christian your reason is obscured is bad
Concrete
Not being able to be responsible and timely
because your so busy looking in the mirror and worrying about how the outside sees you fixing your hair and make up primping like a peacock to show off your beautiful feathers
is bad
Good would be taking the time out to fix your self up, appreciating your good looks, but appreciating your self the way god made you.
deciding to skip the make up and complete the task at hand
making that a priority more than the way you look
Concrete when receiving a compliment, thanking the person kindly and then offer a compliment
bad version when your complimented you say yeah thanks and take a look in the mirror
Concrete do you spend more than 2 hours a day on looks
Good you spend less than and hour on primping your feathers.
hope this helps

Pride comes from a feeling of self worth. It's when you feel you are a good person, an honest person and a person who is always true to their word. When you respect yourself it doesn't matter how others see you. Some people don't like proud people because they don't have any pride in themselves as a person, but that doesn't matter because you and the people who really know you will always respect you.

For me, my pride is grounded and inseparable from my self respect. Forget the god thing. That sort of philosophy makes self respect dishonorable. There is no wrong in living a life that follows ones personal design for maintaining credibility and positive self image.

according to wiki
Pride is the name of an emotion which refers to a strong sense of self-respect, a refusal to be humiliated as well as joy in the accomplishments of oneself or a person, group, nation or object that one identifies with. To think of self higher than anyone and everyone else. It is considered one of the seven deadly sins.
According to the Concise Oxford Dictionary, Proud comes from late Old English prud, probably from Old French prude "brave, valiant" (11th century), from Latin prode "advantageous, profitable", from prodesse "be useful". The sense of "having a high opinion of oneself", not in French, may reflect the Anglo-Saxons' opinion of the Norman knights who called themselves "proud", like the French knights preux.
in my own words
pride is simply your highly representation of yourself. its an emotion or feeling that you are better than everybody else and you can do everything by yourself. according to wiki, it is considered to be one of the seven deadly sins on earth, but i don't think that little pride won't hurt you at all, there are instances that its better to have pride than doing something that will jeopardize you or somebody else. like for example, when you're offered illegal drugs by your friends, will you smoke it or put your pride in the situation and tell yourself that your better than doing pot.
there are also times pride make the life of other miserable. like in your case, i can see that someone doesn't like you very well so they might say your a conceited person or your full of pride. too much pride can hurt and sometimes you just don't see it because you think highly of yourself. like an example is when you see a beggar in the street, you don't normally say or show them that they don't have a life and your better than them.
to conclude, you need to know where to put pride first or not. being humble can help also.

you said it: It is straight from hell.
Pride is the "first sin" - the sin that drove Satan ( then, Lucifer) out of heaven. Pride is the sin that caused Adam & Eve to fall. Pride is the sin that keeps mankind away from God.
Pride is at the root of vanity, greed, lust - and all the other sins.
Pride is thinking you are something when you are nothing. Pride is thinking yourself better than someone else. Pride is thinking you don't need God. Pride is thinking that you and your needs are more important than someone else and their needs.
Jesus Christ came into the world and showed us the nature and character of God His Father. Jesus Christ humbled Himself, took upon Himself the form of a servant, washed His disciples feet, suffered humiliation and shame, was beaten and hung on a cross. He demonstrated complete humility. Humility is the opposite of pride.
Humility loves others, humility thinks others better than oneself. humility serves others.
Pride is the nature of the devil.
Humility is the nature of God.

Pride is the false perception that we are separate from God. We seek our own identify or ego. Souls that sense the separation is false, but have not yet progressed to that spiritual level that allows them to see the "truth" will look for external validation of their own ego via money, power, vanity, gluttony, etc etc etc. Of course this system doesn't work and the soul suffers for not finding what it really wants.
This isn't 'bad', it's part of a learning cycle. The sooner you crucify your ego, and allow your true devine nature to ressurect, the sooner you can leave the hell of pride and move on.
God bless

A reasonable or justifiable self-respect. Conceit also appears. I think there's a line you cross. Remember to be humble at times as well when the situation calls for it.

Let me answer you in biblical way. God only sees one kind of pride.
1 John 2:16
For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.

A sentiment which emerges when one feels that following an action by himself or anyone related to him in anyway has raised his esteem/self esteem in society or his surroundings.
On the other hand it can be used to describe persons who tend to feel over esteemed for any reason which makes them feel that they are better than others.
