It IS legal to do so! You don't need to pay out for a Deed Poll! All the groom has to do is to contact everyone who knows him by his old name like the bank, utility companies, doctor, etc by letter with a photocopy of the Marriage Certificate, so that there is a link to the Surname he wishes to use!
I am in the same boat as you ! I've been married for 10 months and I'm still waiting for the hubby to sort his name out! But since he keeps throwing the threat of divorce in my face every week, I am not too fussed!

I think if the groom is taking the bride's surname he has to change it by deed poll. My friend got married about 15 years ago and her hubby changed his surname to her's because of her kids and I am sure he had to change it via deed poll. Ask Citizens advice, they should be able to help

It is perfectly legal, although unusual, to change the couple's name to the bride's surname.

it is legal, just because its not very commonly known doesnt mean you cant do it. the woman taking the mans surname is just tradition basically. no reason why you cant change that!

of course it would be legal. you'd just have to do a deed poll which costs £30 and then you can call yourself whatever you like. i guess the same applies in the usa too.

You can call yourself anything you want, as long as it not for fraud reasons
