Yah, it's Vista Home Basic yah, and Cisco VPN 5.0.00.0340 It installs and opens up fine, but just won't connect, giving me an error:

Reason 412: The remote peer is no longer responding.

But it is, and works fine with a different laptop.

Any help greatly appreciated

What OS is the other laptop running? XP home or HP Professional?

What I'm curious about is if the Cisco VPN software is trying to connect to a domain -- Much like XP Home, Vista Home Basic does not offer the ability to connect to a domain. I've only used Vista Business, Enterprise, and Ultimate so I am unsure how home basic would be effected by this.

If Vista Home Basic cannot handle logging into a domain, this could certainly cause some problems -- unless the Cisco Software can work around that.

And also... I HIGHLY agree with the above posters about disabling the firewall...
VERY often the firewall has been the culprit for why a computer could not connect to the VPN. If you wish to still use the firewall - you could find out which port the Cisco Software uses and configure the firewall to allow that port IN and OUT.

If memory serves me correctly you will need to download the software to be able to access the Cisco Network.
Chances are good that they might not have the operable software completed for vista yet. Check with the System Administrator. He or She may have a work around.

I would check with your IT support people and ensure that the vpn client is compatable with Vista, if not then that is your issue.

If there is an updated client then you may want to get a copy of that ie by downloading it or getting them to send you it.

If not then they may have a work around as mentioned above
