blood sugar is the bodies main source of energy. When this runs low the process of metabolism turns out body fat into energy. Conversely, when our bodies blood sugar levels are high it stores by turning into fat which can be used another time. Therefore when you excersise you use more energy so it burns more of your body fat

Articles written on the subject of raising metabolism often suggest that an increased metabolism is more efficient because it burns more calories. This is true if your goal is to lose weight. But it is interesting to note that an increased metabolism is actually less efficient, requiring more food to maintain body weight. This goes against nature's design for survival.

Even more important is the observation that an increased metabolism has been shown to cause premature aging. You have to ask yourself whether you are willing to have your body run like an automobile in neutral with its engine racing. The alternative, eating healthy foods in reasonable quantities and exercising on a regular basis, would seem the healthier choice.

Still, should ypou want to raise your metabolism it only takes a few key habits. There is no magic pill required. You don't have to put heavy spices on all of your foods or run in circles all day long, either. Here are a few tips:

1.Training with weights boosts your metabolism in a number of ways. Weight training itself has been shown to increase exercise post oxygen consumption (EPOC) - in other words, your metabolism may be raised for hours or even days after the session. Weight training is also the main way to stimulate the growth of muscle tissue.

Muscle tissue is metabolically active, so it requires calories even when at rest. Muscle tissue also helps increase the number of fat-burning enzymes and organelles in your body.

2.Believe it or not, simply changing some simple daily habits can have a huge impact on your metabolism. Do you play the game of driving around the parking lot for twenty minutes waiting for the perfect space to open? Instead, park at the edge of the parking lot and walk to your destination.

You'll probably get there quicker, and burn some calories along the way. Other metabolism-boosting activities include standing instead of sitting, taking stairs instead of elevators, and even fidgeting!

3.Carbohydrates are not the enemy. Using the right types of carbohydrates can be a valuable tool for your metabolism.

For example, you may expend more calories consuming 20 grams of carbohydrate from lentils than 20 grams of carbohydrate from sugar. The lentils contain fiber and other nutrients that the body must work to extract, and therefore expends more energy. Look for fibrous, low-glycemic carbs and focus on unprocessed carbohydrates.

These are much more efficient ways to raise your metablism than taking any weightloss pills. In general, there’s little evidence that the ingredients they contain will work to help you lose weight. ‘There’s not much research to suggest that over-the-counter slimming pills induce weight loss,’ says Carey. ‘Even if research has been carried out, it’s usually only one or two small studies, the results of which haven’t been repeated or seen in larger studies.’

However, if you’re still tempted to try an over-the-counter slimming tablet, there are plenty to choose from. Bear in mind that most of them recommend, or come with, a reduced-calorie diet plan and suggest taking more exercise, which generally explains why they result in weight loss! Bear in mind, too, that while some of these tablets may claim to be supported by research, this is likely to be a ‘one-off’ small study

There are no herbals that raise the metabolism as much as exercise and small regular meals. The ECA (ephedrine, caffeine, aspirin) stack does it but there are health issues associated with it. Realistically, this raises metabolism by a small amount and is no substitute for nature's way. I'd take the advice of the good doctor above, exercise regularly and eat small and often. Build more muscle as lean body mass burns many times more calories than fat and a sensible cardiovascular programme will see the weight come off and stay off.

For the record, Hoodia Gordonii does not work by raising metabolism but by suppressing appetite. In fact it does neither particularly well (if at all) so ignore the misinformation above.

Mustard is a secret bulge-buster. The item boosts your metabolism and increases natural ephadrine, the hormone that burns fat. According to Jeya Henry, professor of human nutrition from Oxford Brookes University, just a tablespoon as part of your food can reduce a flabby waist by 20 %!

if you eat a lot of small meals every day it speeds up your metabolism because it knows it has to work constantly. Metabolisms work weird for some reason. And as for herbal tablets, there is this one vitamin that helps speed up your metabolism but it also does a lot of other stuff for your body as well. Here's the website for the vitamin so you can read about it for yourself, its way too much for me to type. but its the bomb. good luck!

Go bland. Plain, straightforward, unseasoned food such as smoked chicken, plain rice and a undressed baked potato are nutritious however your palette will tire of these quickly, unlike salty moreish refined food, which keeps you snacking and piling on the pounds.
