Second question: What part of the Constitution do you not feel obligated to defend? Do you believe that McCain-Fiengold has infringed upon your free speech? Many here are upset about their fear of the potential abuse of things such as the Patriot Act. Yet these same people sat back and let the First/1st Amend. get stepped on hard. Why is that? Because they don't use that aspect of it? Because it suits their political goals? Because it only shuts up people they disagree with? You cant pick and choose what parts of the Constitution you want to support. Our military supports and defends the Constitution of the United States. Not just the 2 Amendment or the 14th. ALL OF IT. They don't interpret, selectively change, or ignore parts as they see fit. They fight and die for it. Not just one obscure part of it. People need to pay attention to the whole Constitution and be aware that BOTH parties are constantly infringing on our rights.

People are selfish and only care when the changes affect them. They haven't felt it yet, but they could. This is how Bush has effectively taken them away by insisting that ordinary Americans have nothing to fear. But what if your name winds up on a list? What if you make some innocent mistake and your phones are tapped?
They've shown that the Administration is working with the us phone companies with out warrants which directly violates OUR LAWS. It's not about if it effects you directly, it's about what it does to our Constitution. The Founding Fathers were very smart in how they framed our laws, it is to protect us from a Government who believes it's above the law.
No one has said that wiretapping can't happen, all they ask is that a warrant is provided, even after the fact is okay! As long as it is with in 72 hours.
Good people have stood by in history and let atrocious things happen around them because it didn't affect them.

Since when does a person have to feel the effects of rights lost, for the rights to actually have been lost?
I really don't think these people who think they have to personally feel the loss of rights, for them to have been lost, actually understand the idea behind freedom.
I also find it hard to fathom, that the same people claiming that the 2nd amendment is so important to protect, because it safeguards us from an oppressive government, are the first people to support every erosion of liberties as perfectly ok, just because they have yet to feel the impact personally.

Other than the search and siezure of ridiculous items like blunt nosed sewing scissors and 1/2 a bottle of coca-cola at the airport I haen't been affected YET.
And I'm sure all the Jewish people in Germany thought the same thing in 1935.
ANYTIME, and I mean ANYTIME, people sacrifice their RIGHTS for safety, they deserve NEITHER.
And by the way... why would I waste money on weaponry to bring aboard a plane? The idiots on board arm me on every flight with a smile and are only too happy to sell me overpriced booze.
{ aluminum soda can---- RAZOR sharp!! }
{ 151 rum-- highly flamible!! }

I believe that the patriot act was passed with the best intentions - to protect americans - but if used maliciously it is dangerous -
and has the power to abuse law abiding american citizens- I just dont want that option on the table for someone to take advantage of me or my family or yours for that matter- you asked this second question to justify the first- I am not a democrat -and again the constitution must be protected so you can say whatever you want and so that americans can be secure in being americans-

I feel a lot less secure and safe knowing a president who has no respect for the Constitution. I would prefer not weakening habeas corpus, possee commutatis, and having a politicized Justice dept. In 2000 Bush stole a presidential election when GOP thugs derailed the election in FL and GOP Supreme Court Justices crowned him king.
Thanks to Bush's war, we are a lot less safe at home and abroad. And look at all the money he has borrowed from China to fund his war.
On a personal level I am a lot less safe.

First they came for the Muslims, and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a Muslim.
Then they came to detain immigrants indefinitely solely upon the certification of the Attorney General, and I didn't speak up because I wasn't an immigrant.
Then they came to eavesdrop on suspects consulting with their attorneys, and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a suspect.
Then they came to prosecute non-citizens before secret military commissions, and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a non-citizen.
Then they came to enter homes and offices for unannounced "sneak and peek" searches, and I didn't speak up because I had nothing to hide.
Then they came to reinstate Cointelpro and resume the infiltration and surveillance of domestic religious and political groups, and I didn't speak up because I had stopped participating in any groups.
Then they came for anyone who objected to government policy because it aided the terrorists and gave ammunition to America's enemies, and I didn't speak up because...... I didn't speak up.
Then they came for me....... and by that time no one was left to speak up.

As I have said before, I always wondered how the citizens of Germany could not have noticed the atrocities commited by the Nazis. After seven years of the Bush administration and six years of the PATRIOT ACT, I no longer ask that question.

No liberties lost, and many gained here! Elimination of small business tax, reduction of marriage tax, individual freedom, lowered mortgage rates, and more that suit me just fine.
