Time for them all to come home including allies. The war in Iraq was declared over in May 2003 by Bush & Blair. Afghanistan is just a total cluster feck. Bush has the luxury of conducting his total commitment to the war on terror from his bed surrounded by security. Pity it's not like the old days when the leader was in the front line of battle. He may change his view point with an RPG up his rear ring.

Whilst ever Government on both sides of the Atlantic can filter and select the information given to the population then the population will retain the "feel good factor" and believe the spin.

I've just waved my son off for his 3rd tour - The parting does not get any easier.

Emotionally and politically I might agree. I have always been against the Bush invasion of Iraq.

However, If it is seen that a US withdrawal from Iraq has been the result of a Islamic Fundamentalist or Iranian victory the US will get more trouble later and elsewhere. This is especially after Bush's crusader type language. The population demographics and economic trends are going against the US in the world and such language could only come from a complete idiot.

As an aside Islamic Fundamentalist are not Muslims in the definition of their own sharia and traditions. No Muslim is allowed to kill another person Muslim or otherwise and Muslims are supposed to be ever prepared to settle affairs peacefully. That goes for most of the worlds religions they have little to do with their founders and their beliefs are an accretion of innovations.

Yes the US should withdraw at the earliest opportunity. In the mean time they should avoid antagonising the opposition and weaken their resolve by affirm but open handed policy.

The same could be said for all the allies, why just americans...a question which cannot be usefully answered here. I for one think that both America and UK should stay the course in Iraq until the country is able to secure its own future. If the insurgent forces think the Allies are going to leave then they will increase their violence so they can say that they won and forced the withdrawl......
This is not to say that I agree with the Invasion or occupation in the first place, because I don't. But saying we are leaving will only increase the violence and the casualties.

Chinagirl, Japan attacked us, so we had a right to go kick them in the ***. Iraq didn't attack us or even have WMD's. I believe in the concept of a Just War. Only attack countries that attack us first or defend friendly countries from aggressive countries.

I believe that we are currently staging one of the biggest scams in history. We have a whole lot of ruckus going on over in Iraq and meanwhile in Afghanistan they are producing the highest poppy yeild ever! In Sudan for YEARS they have been effectively wiping out total races, through genocide. In Turkey and down in through that region inconspicuous neighbors have that pipleline that Michael Moore was talking about going on, I think what we have done is tapped into the same collection of oil and were slowly stealing it right out from under them!!! Smart, but at what cost??? So in fact, YES I would love to bring back the troops. I think they are not expendable frontmen for a staged war.

And what do we do next after? A formal surrender or just roll over for the next attack?

Our military people are not innocent (implying a complete ignorance of the dangers). They are highly skilled, motivated, equipped and all volunteered to the last man and woman. The innocents were on the planes and in the buildings on 9-11.

illegal criminal immigrants in the U.S. kill more American citizens EACH YEAR than have been killed in Iraq since the war began.

i am for bringing home the troops. however, when they leave, i am SURE that Iraq will quickly descend into a Rwandan Bosnian nightmare, and the U.S. will have to go RIGHT BACK IN.

it is a debacle.

No. If you are talking about the military in Iraq and Afghanistan. They are doing what the military does. In a war, the US should never give up.

Sometime the cost of freedom is high. But if there were such simpering during WW II you'd be speeking Japanese right now and I would be a pleasure slave for the local Japanese garisson in North China.
