"I would rather be hated for who I am than love for who I am not." - This is a part of growing up, you don't change yourself; you change your opinion of him.

There are much worse things than feeling like you have no friends. Compromising what you believe to be accepted by the crowd is one of them.
You can easily join them if you want to, but on the inside you will hate it and yourself for doing so. I would advise being who you are no matter how lonely it feels right now. Who knows? You could be affecting someone around you for the good and you aren't even aware of it yet.
The only reason any "bad" crowd wants you to join them is because they feel justified by the numbers. You join their ranks and you justify what they do. Peer pressure isn't about winning you over to their side because they care about you. It's about qualifying the stupid choices they're making. "Look, so and so does it too, so I must not be so bad." See what I mean?
Don't limit yourself to friends at school. Join a club. Go to church. Join a sports team apart from the school. There are plenty of friends to be had outside of school....you don't have to live like a monk. There are plenty of good people around!
(I'll bet if you look a little harder, you might even find one or two at your school.....) But if not, maybe you should speak with your parents about the possibility of switching schools. If it really is that bad where you are, then sometimes it's best to just get out, than try and tough it out.
Good luck to you!

dont try and be someone else. to have friends just cause your acting bad is truely pittiful. If they dont like you for you then f*ck them. Good guy always gets the last laugh meaning while your doing good in school working on your future half those bad guys will probably be in jail, crackheads, or living a bad life. For your best friend to change shows you that he is not a true friend anyway

You should only change if it is for the better, never change so you have friends. What you should look for in a friend are the same principles that you have now.
GOOD LUCK

This is a classic example of peer pressure. I know exactly what you are going through, I changed in the past and I really regretted it. Don't change your principles because you're alone, if your friends are bad, SCREW THEM!! You don't need them, and maybe your example will make your old friend right his wrongs and change.

Always be your own leader, and you will succeed in life. Why don't you concentrate on trying to help him get back to being the good person that he was before? Never be a follower. Followers do not go anywhere in life. They just hang around and do what other people tell them to do.

You know what ?it is at times like these that you get to know who is a true friend and who isn't.the guy is your friend, just because he has changed does not mean you change too.
i say stick with your friend, try talking to him, eventually he will see reason.
you cant help you friend by also changing, you have to be an example to him.believe me deep down inside he wants to be the same old him every time he sees you,i have been there.
stick with your friend,as they say,FRIENDS FOREVER.
Good luck in mending your friendship.
