inherited set of disco lights, no plug though. four wires instead of the usual three. Don't know where to put the fourth wire, and don't want to blow anything up by putting black wire in with any others, including myself. Not tooo technically minded so probably shouldn't be doing this anyway, but we all love disco lights. Any advice? (sarcastic people need not apply!!!!!)

Something doesnt sound right with the wiring. Green/yellow is usually a ground. Blue, brown and black are usually colors associated with hot. There is usually a white common in there somewhere. When you wire it you need to have a closed loop. Ceiling fans quite often have 2 hots, a common and a ground. What you are describing has 3 hots and a ground. No common no loop. No power.

I think a couple guys are on the right track. It sounds like you have a setup for a DC connection. You probably need to get a converter that makes AC into DC. It will control the speed and possibly the direction of the ball.

Since you like disco and are obviously gay, it shouldn't be hard for you to find someone that knows where you can find one. Either that or go to radio shack (or a good electronic supply place) and ask them what you need.

Blue is neutral (negative bar)
Brown and black are hot power(positive bar)
Green or green/yellow is ground (return neutral to earth)
perhaps your system must have 2 operation mode If is 110 V
and you should connect one by one . First black to hot entry then switch system ON ,if does not worked then connect brown to the hot entry ,if again does not worked double wires brown and black to hot entry

My guess is that you are missing a control box to which those wires connected.
Before you try anything, look at the lamps and motor to see what the voltage rating is.
If it's all 120V. an 'electro-geek` friend with a continuity meter can probably cobble together a controller for you.

BLACK WILL BE YOUR HOT WIRE, THE ONE YOU WANT TO BE CAREFUL OF, GREEN/YELLOW IS YOUR GROUND, SO YOU DON'T GET SHOCKED. BLUE AND BROWN? SORRY, I WOULD HAVE TO BE THERE.
