Iodide is the ion of iodine. Iodine is needed by your thyroid for making thyroxin, the thyroid hormone that regulates the rate that you use food, or body metabolism. The lack of iodine causes the thyroid to swell called goiter. Slt was thought to be the best way to get iodine to the most people as you do not get enough if you do not eat salt water fish often.
Iodine is also a brown liquid used on cuts to kill germs. In this form it is dissolved in alcohol, called a tincture of iodine.
