Ok, This will probaly raise some brows buuut.
I have a friend who just found out she is pregnant. Not only that but more than 2 months along. She is a quite heavy drug user, ranging from I-V drugs like heroin and ketamine, i actually watched her shoot up extasy once. All though she has only done heroin a few times, one was in the months before she knew! I'm seriously worried about this babies condition. How did it even survive all that crazy drug use during the most precious times of its growth. Can anyone tell me what the possible side effects can be? Will this baby be ok?

She is not using anymore, but she was for the first 10-12 weeks or so. Wont this have the biggest effect, since the baby was just making all of its features?

If she stops all drugs now completely the baby still might have a chance of being close to normal. This is really the most critical time when the brain is developing and if she completely stops now she might spare the child of a lifetime of difficulty. If she continues and the child is born addicted to drugs there could be permanent damage. I know you don't like to do it but in that babies best interest you might want to find out who her doctor is and fill them in on the situation. While the doctor can not discuss with you anything regarding any patient without that patients permission he or she can listen to your concerns. If that doesn't work call CPS. My best friend was a foster parent and dealt with the results of drug addicted babies and I have seen the effects. It's not fair to the child at all. Thank you for your concern of this child you have taken the first step by asking for advice,.. only you can decide what you do from here!

Hi Kate, No this baby will be born a drug baby and will have a terrible time coming down off all the drugs she has taken. The baby could be born deformed, retarded and all sorts of things wrong with the baby. You need to report her to child protected services so they can lock her up somewhere so they can keep her from the drugs. If the baby is born with any medical problems she is going to be in a lot of trouble. She knew she was pregnant and kept taking drugs and has in damager the baby health. If you want to save this baby REPORT HER NOW TODAY!!! If you don't you will never forgive your self.
A Friend.

That's too sad, poor baby. I just watched on the news about babies being born addicted. They have to go somewhere to get weaned off the drugs (it takes a long time). They actually showed people holding them and they were shaking all over uncontrollably. I cried my eyes out watching that.

Homeopathic remedies contain no active ingredients and rely entirely on the placebo effect. Therefore they are safe to take during pregnancy and breastfeeding. This is not true of all complementary therapies, including herbalism which, as the answerer above me says, has not been thoroughly researched. Chinese herbs in particular have proved dangerous for all people not just nursing mothers.

There is a good chance the baby will be affected, but how and to what degree it's hard to say. Get your friend to be honest with her OB about what, how much and when she used drugs so the doctor can determine the risk. If it's high enough she may even want to consider abortion.

Call CPS or the police and ask for advice.
Even tho the baby is unborn, she is putting a child's life as well as her own in danger.
She could kill someone else also by being high/drunk while driving.
A bad situation all around. Do everyone a favor and report her.
A true friend would.

Maybe the baby will be maybe the baby won't..just pray for this little child..Frankly, I know this sounds harsh and this is your friend, but I would call DCFS or your local children services...see if they can maybe put her in rehab...side effects, low birth weight, physical problems, mental problems, emotional problems..just a bunch of problems..BUT not every child has problems from their mom using during pregnancy it is just rare not to.

Babies born addicted to drugs can have NUMEROUS problems...a lot of them are in the heart and brain. If you love your friend, you need to show her some tough love and get her help before it destroys her and her baby.

This is a very dangerous situation - this is going to cause problems for the baby as it starts to grow, and the baby will be in more pain, and as it gets around 13 its going to be addicted to teen smoking/sex. Tell your friend to take it low, and take my advice.

I agree with Nichole, The mother needs help, and fast, the sooner she can get off drugs the better and there is no guarantee that it will be soon enough.
