If you were given a different name at the time of your birth, would you still be the same person you are today? Do you think our names affect us in a way? Or do our names affect the people around us?

I don't think that a neutral sort of name like, "Sarah" or "Timothy," hold any real meaning in terms of what you're speaking of.

Names like, "Heaven," "Angel," and, "Joy," however have meaning engrained in them already, by society. Different words also mean different things in various countries and dialects, so that should be kept in mind. While the names I just noted would probably have a positive effect, you can name your child practically anything you want. So, there have the ever-famous, "Iamapig," which would have an obvious negative effect on a child.

I don't think that the letters and the sound of your name are what affects people, but rather the connotations that go along with certain names.

For instance, my name is Erin. It's an Irish word, and can be transalted to the word, "Erie" (I beleive that's how it's spelled), which is a large part of a Irish history.

Certain names are going to hold certain meanings for everyone. :) I can't stand certain names because of people who have had those names that hurt me in the past.

I really don't think that if I had been named something different, my entire history would change. I think that's going a bit over the line. But! I do think that you can be affected in some ways.

Sorry to ramble on!

on your first question my answer is yes . just the name you have, its given to you, you did not chose it yourself.
our name can have affect on us ,yes, if its a name you don't like ,this can give bad feelings ..But you can always chose a calling name you like or let change your name official .
the name can affect on people to .our name connect us with our family. When the family is good , people see you as good. When somebody in the fam is bad ,they see you as bad to.

Of course our name affects our live! No matter whether we would smart, skilled, graduated or not.

Do you believe you and I would waste our time on Yahoo! answer if our father was Frank Sinatra, Colin Powell, or Steven Spielberg?

I don't think my name determines my personality. My name means fountain and that means nothing to me. You should name your children good names. I think that's a great way to bless your child from their moment of birth.
