My grandmother was a wise lady she would speak many words of wisdom and i would sit and listen to her stories i could listen for hours on end, but what i loved about her is her phrases/sayings regardless of if i thought they were right or not, i new they were.

"Only a fool laughs at his own calamity"
"What the eyes don't see the heart will not grieve"

and many more that i remember they would take your breath away.
If there is a phrase or inspiring words your elders say/ used to say what are they if you remember? and do you hold fast and tight to them or are they obsolete?

My grandmother used to say things I thought were strange... now I cherish them, of course. :-) Here are a few of them:

"Don't go cryin' over that boy! He's not the only can in the bottom of the ocean with a rusty bottom!"

"Well, I got my couch moved, but I like to bust a gut!"

"It'll feel better when it quits hurting!"

(in the daytime) "Turn that light off! You're burnin' daylight!"

"Don't you let that cat in! It'll lick the butter!"

Thanks for reminding me - made me smile. :-) bbjo

Every society is judged by how it treats the less fortunate.

I was going to say:

"Never put your finger where you wouldn't put your willy"

but I thought I'd better not!

My dad used to say "You know what? - I'll be glad when I've had enough"!! Lol!!
On the more serious side he always said "self-praise is no recommendation".

I hold onto the one: It's better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it. And if you think you have good neighbors, then you are one yourself.
