These are propaganda laden terms. When you start playing the game with such emotionally laden terms, you are sometimes forgetting the reality of the situation.

Language is a model for reality. It is not reality itself. Learn about the difference between connotation and denotation. Our media seems to thrive on misuse of language and logic. To me, the major media outlets are little more than propaganda machines for the establishment.

I suggest you use more neutral terms to discuss these things. Both these terms denote a rather disgusting reality.

A terrorist is somebody who kills or frightens innocent people for their own greed for something. I.e angry about war in their country. A freedom fighter can be two things. A person who protests against things they disagree with, or a person who is a terrorist. Now, a terrorist may be bombing/e.c.t to make a point for freedom or just because they want to bring down another country or place. To the people on their side, that 'terrorist' would be a freedom fighter. But to the other side, it would be a terrorist. Interesting question! :)

Terrorists kill innocent people, they issue decree to kill innocent people. They do not allow people any freedom to think apart from their own ideology. For terrorists there is nothing called as humanity, fairness its more like accept my thoughts or you die.

Freedom fighters actually fight against terrorists , they both have totally opposing meanings. A person who is fighting for freedom will have mass support will value freedom of expression, faith etc. the most. A true freedom fighter will never tell people how to live their lives and what they should or should not do in their daily lives.

And finally a true freedom fighter will never fight for some religious ideology because that whole concept goes against the freedom of following whatever faith you choose.

A Freedom Fighter is someone who does not risk the lives of innocent people however fight a constricting government to better the lives of the innocents living in one specific country or state...

A Terrorist is someone who follows one leader and does whatever this leader says or believes in and ignites violence and could fatally harm innocent people while trying to better their lives in some odd way.

A Freedom Fighter and a Terrorist could be fighting for the same purpose but one chooses to fight an believed organization without causing harm to innocent people while Terrorist take the opposite route by attack said organization and possibly risking innocent people getting hurt, Terrorist take a more violent path by attacking the public in hopes of making them see what said organization is forcing them to do.

My opinion...
Freedom Fighters = Peaceful but still willing to bring the fight without harming non-fighters.

Terrorist = Fighters who are willing to strike at any means with a mindset of anyone being collateral damage.

It all depends on your perspective. George Bush wants Americans to believe he's waging a war on terror, but he and his ilk are setting up the onslaught of the NEW WORLD ORDER and in the process of creating a military dictatorship that will eradicate all but 500,000 people from the face of the planet.

Its all a matter of tactics.

The resistance fighter that engages the military forces occupying his country; uses geneva convention legal weapons; recognizes and respects red cross/red cresent; fights in identifiable and disiplined units and makes every reasonable attempt to avoid civilian casualties is a legitimate gurrella and should be accorded the respect / rights of one.

The terrorist who delibertly targets civilians to incite fear or just to kill those who he doesnt like; who kills local civilian leaders / teachers / judges just to create chaos and who uses geneva convention protected places to hide and launch attacks from; and who recklessly endangers civilian lives with the manner / location / weapons of his attacks is a murdering thug who has no rights in a civil society.

I think a terrorist is whoever Bush declares to be one. If you are a pick pocket in Baghdad who is caught by american soldiers, you could be declared an enemy combatant and off to gitmo with ya.

Cynical answer: Whoever wins writes the history books. Whoever writes the history books decides.

Real answer: Freedom fighters don't blow up night clubs, hijack planes, and target defenseless civilians. Freedom fighters target the government and military they want freedom from.

In my opinion, anyone wanting to kill another, terrorizes someone innocent. Anyone with a gun who is not afraid to use it terrorizes me...
