First you have to have wisdom and common sense.

Second you must have a desire to communicate
and the desire to at least know a little about everything.

Learn to be independent enough to have the ability, to form your own opinion and not be gullible enough to believe everything you read and hear on television.

Watch the travel channel, the history channel.

Read the classics.

Watch movies about the classics and choose historical movies.

You don't learn much by the action movies and the scary movies.

Read poetry, quotes and the history of the different times and era.

Learn an appreciation of the Arts and Humanities.

Visit museums. Most of them have short films that explain the display and the history of them.

Become a tourist in your own town or state and visit all the points of interests. Most are free to the public.

Of course you can learn and gain knowledge by taking classes through adult education and colleges.

It sounds like you weren't interested enough to listen and learn what you were taught in school but it's great that you now seem to want to become knowledgeable.

It's never too late to learn.

We learn something new everyday.

Go to your local library. You can spend a good part of you days there looking for books and subject of interest.

Your libraian will be glad to assist you and make recommendations.

Take a note book and pencil and list a course you have charted for yourself and just see how fast you will gain knowlege and become a great conversationalist.

I want to share a few quotes and I suggest that you begin to collect quotes, poems and information about things of interest.

~
“ Never mistake knowledge for wisdom, one helps you make a living,
the other helps you make a life.”
James Oppenheim
~
“ If you don’t know where your going.
Any road will take you there.”
George Harrison
~
“ The foolish man seeks happiness in the distance;
the wise man grows it under his feet.”
~
“ You don’t get harmony when everybody sings the same note.”
~
“If you don’t stand for something, you’ll fall for anything.”
Doug Floyd
~
“ Learn to pause . . . or nothing worthwhile will catch up to you.”

This is very lengthy and I hope I have been of some help.
