For my dog, a setter with long, floppy ears, I use a product called Malacetic Otic (which I got from the vet). We just squirt a bunch down into his ear (and YES, he HATES it) and then rub the base of his ear ... then turn him loose in the yard to run circles and shake his head and rub his ears like crazy on the grass ... then, when he calms down, we clean out the nasty residue with a paper towel or some gauze ... don't use a q-tip or anything like that.

It takes two of us (minimum) to do this ... one to hold him still, and the other to do the ear-cleaning. But we have to do it all the time because he's so prone to ear-infections.

Hi Sabrina, Go to Petsmart and they have bottles of ear cleaning fluid for dogs and cats. Put some of the cleaner on a cotton ball and move it around in the ear you may have to change to a new cottons 1 or 2 times. It's easy to do. I have 3 dogs and I have no problem doing their ears for them. I even brush their teeth with an electric tooth brush. I started this when they were young. Lol
A Friend.

There is a liquid called Epiotic. You pour a few drops in the ear, and then wipe with a small cotton. You should not use Q tips, because it is easy to break the eardrum with those.
If you don't have the Epiotic, you can use olive oil on a cotton ball, it is very good for this.

When i got my puppy he had dirty smelly ears. I got some puppy shampoo (Detergent is too caustic for thier tender skin) Mix a bit with water and get some cotton balls. Don't drip the water into the ear but wet the cotton ball and gently wipe the inside of the ear. Most of the gunk will be at the beggining of the ear anyway. Then get a dry cotton ball and dry the ear. Do this a couple of times to each ear. I did this to my pup and he is fine now. If you leave it, They will get irritated and annoying for them.
