There are only two reason a person can bad mouth you, that either they are jealous ,envy or afraid of you. Remember if no one talks about you is like you don't exist, words can never kill like my granmother used to say. Well, let them talk , eventually if you don't show any anger in how they treat you , they will find something else to talk about. When you happen to be around them show some confidence and pride in yourself, that way you will surely kill put them off. I am in the same situation and have learn not to be bother by what they say, i know it sometimes hurt. It is human nature, isn't it?

I personally have ran into people of this nature and have come to the conclusion that they are bored with their own lives and just need some excitement. Its sad that we have to be the pawn in their such childish games, however and the same time I try my best to be the kind person that I am and realize that its them and not me.
Smile, Grin and bear it.....knowing that I will only be with them a couple of days and then able to move on.
Note that I do not or will not stay at such a place ever again, I keep a business card index and they get a red X, across the front.>> my mark to stay away...we can only learn.
Best wishes

Yes, it could be jealousy if youre in a far more successful state than they are. Example of this was when i was in lower-level school of mine. I was already cultured and intelligent and guys hated my guts for that, i tried my best to stay low key and all but i realized that im making myself upset by trying to hide who i am. In these sort of cases a 'Your opinion of me is none of my business' approach works the best. You should mind immature, petty and people who can't stand the fact that they lack compared to you.
However, do keep note that sometimes they may have a point if alot of people dislike you. Arrogance and confidence are seperated by a fine line. Even now in my new school, i realize that and i get along fine. Self reflection is vital if you want to analyze things - seeing both sides of the argument

Your Answer was IN your Question- when you mentioned how they bad-mouthed you. Immaturity has MANY causes. Ignorance. Poverty. Low Self Esteem. Fear. -to name a handfull. Their "Issues" became YOURS- when their behavior upset you. If that's the BEST that Hotel can DO -as far as hiring clientelle to Service it, write their Home Office a complaint- & stay somewhere ELSE, from now on. Your money can find BETTER places to go.

Because it makes them feel better about their own shortcomings to belittle someone else. And the way of today's world is greed and hedonism at the cost of anyone and anything. Jealousy and envy really drive people to do and say evil, hurtful things and even make vicious lies about good people. The only person you can really trust is yourself.

if people are always disliking you, then you have to take another look in the mirror. Maybe there is something about the way you act or talk to people that makes them react to you that way.
