I have seen a room that is soundproof and it looks like Egg cartons not the foam ones the paper ones just the part where the eggs sit and you can put them on with an adhesive that is easily removed its light so it wont stop the door from working. you could also try to use styrofoam sheets about an inch thick you could cover it with a plain colored fabric use thumb tacks to attach the fabric.then you could use it as a bullitin board for pics and stuff. you could use loops of duck tape with the sticky stuff on the outside to attach it to your door. make sure it will open and close right. I would ask your parents first though. parents get kinda bent out of shape when you go altering their house lol. I also want you to know that the sound may not be coming just from the door. it may be coming from the walls too. Good luck and keep trying to read. Its my favorite past time.

If you have enough double side tape (the foam type) you can use is as weatherstriping around your door. just stick one side to the door jamb and leave the paper on the other side. a towel at the bottom of the door will help also. sorry, I don't think there is a good way to block the bass sound from the movies. The ear plugs might be the best idea for that.

Soundproofing is a complicated and expensive operation and even then the results can be unsatisfying. Get your self a good pair of "noise cancelling" earphones. Some are made for listening and noise cancelling, and some are made for one or the other only. They are not terribly expensive (much, much less than any soundproofing that may or may not work to your satisfaction.
Also the earphones will work any where. School, living room, on the bus. Great huh.

I like the earplugs... cheap, simple, easy. I wear them when I need to concentrate on my class preparations.

BUT if you want to do your door just the same... first get a bottom of door weatherstrip. You can also add foam weather-stripping around the jamb of the door. This will cut down a fair amount of the noise. A blanket tacked to the inside of the door will also help.

This link is for weatherproofing, but will give you the rough idea: http://www.acehardware.com/info/index.jsp?categoryId=1282811&cid=

IF you have the cash... get a solid-core or insulated door. For "around the house" stuff... put a pillow or rolled towel at the bottom of the door, and tack a thick blanket on the door.

You can cut a piece of thick carpet; cut it a little bit higher and larger than your door. Use finition nails. This absorbs the sound pretty good. No need to use a pound of nails though. Good luck.

Try acoustic ceiling panels and attach them to your door. The acoustic type is yellow on the back with a generic white front.
