What I want to do? :: Give them a shower, new clothes, a few great meals, a little money, let them talk it out, a good night's sleep for a change, etc.

What I usually do, usually? :: nothing.

Well it's actually really sad, because many truley need what they ask for then you have all the other ones that make crap up you give them money and they so just played you.
So many times ive givin someone money because they needed to get medicine,gas,etc...and then i see them go and buy some alcohol or ciggs...that pisses me off so much...Once this lady came up to me and said she was hungry and asked for money i said i could go buy her something in the store or subway which was right by us and she said no that she didnt want to eat there or eat anything from the store...obviously she wasnt that hungry.

Now if someone says they need money for gas, food, medicine or even a phone call i will pay for the gas..or put the money in the phone and stand while they make the call oe etc....because it just isnt cool that people with hearts give them money because they feel that person in sencere and then they are buying drugs and crap instead.

Most of the Gulf War and Iraq-Afghanistan vets are under 40. I would hand off money because I am homeless and I know that we can find food pretty much everywhere (and people do want to buy meals for the guy holding the sign and how many meals can he eat?) but simple things like shampoo, athlete's foot powder, pet food (yes, we have them), combs and brushes, and razors aren't that easy to find. If he uses it for alcohol or drugs, there it is. You don't have to give if you suspect it doesn't go where you want it.

Here is a good indicator if its a scam. If you see one guy on the street by himself he's probably legit. If you see one guy on one side and look across the bridge facing the other direction and see another guy they're working it. I would rather not give them money but I have no problem going up to one and asking if he has eaten in a while and going to lunch with them. You do a good deed and they tell good stories.

Occasionally I give money. Who am I to say what they are going to use it for?

I am a social worker, and I know that SSI and other forms of welfare do not pay the bills as they should. People may need toothpaste, food, or other things. So what if they buy cigarettes or booze? Do you spend every penny YOU get wisely?

I learned my lesson so I don't do anything at all. My husband and I gave a homeless guy (he claimed to be) some food and we walked away. My hubby turned around to look at him and he threw away the food we gave him!!! Then I gave a man $5 and he went to go buy booze......so to hell with that...they have shelters for that crap. Then you see these people everyday for weeks on end because of people that feel sorry for them, and they make damn good money obviously!!....I say BS get a job!!

Personally I prefer to tell a person to go fish.My father on the other hand gave a guy money one time because he was honest and said "I need some booze."

whatever his intention might be, I'll still do what my heart will dictate to a pathetic person. I'll give both if I can.. Galatians 6:10

I give them nothing. I work for my cash and they can do the same. There are programs out there to help these people. They just don't want help. They want a free handout.
