David Wells was released then picked up on waivers today by the Dodgers. I know the trade deadline is over for post season play ability. But how about getting someone this way as well.... Chris Gomez on the Tribe is the same thing

According to Ted Leitner and Jerry Coleman on XPRS this evening, yes. According to the standings, the Dodgers will not be in the post-season.

He is eligible because any player delt via waivers before August 31 is elegible for the playoffs with his current team.

If he is on the major league roster by August 31, he is eligible for postseason play with that team.

Players can and sometimes do get traded in September -- it's pretty rare -- and they are not eligible for postseason action.
