My A/C compressor does not start with no noise even the fan is running. However, the fan is using a different capacitor. Do you think it will be a problem for the compressor capacitor? What other possible problem it could be? Thanks all your help.

if the compressor will not start and fan is running on outside unit here are resons why 1 bad capacitor 2 bad overload on compressor or compressor is locked up..3 wires burnt off where they connect to compressor...4 some compressors have a hard start system on them with a relay and a start capacitor this could be bad...or it could have an hard start device that connects to your capacitor, this could be bad...

Here's a few things to try:

It could be that the compressor capacitor is shot but the fan one is still good even when they share the same can. There is also a temperature and current cut out on the compressor of most units, this could have gone bad. Some units use a relay to control the compressor, it could be bad. Some units have a switch which runs fan only or fan + compressor, depending on how its wired, the part of the switch that handles the compressor could be bad but the fan still work. Also check any connection wires between the compressor and controls; they handle heavy starting currents and sometimes a connection gets bad and it just burns right through! If when starting, you hear humming and the lights possibly dimming compressor is trying to start but is jammed, capacitor bad, or wire to start winding burnt -off or loose. Good luck, and be carefull!
