I am conservative but I agree with you that some changes can and should be made to our system. I feel the goverment in and of itself is about as functional as can be expected of government (I agree with Thomas Paine the conscience of the Revolution “Government, even in its best state, is but a necessary evil; in its worst state, an intolerable one.”)
Here are my two ways to make politcians more accountable to the people.
#1 - Instant Run-Off elections. Instead of primaries for the political parties where the Dems have to satisfy the untra left and the Reps have to satisfy the ultra right everyone would run together. Then to stop the crazy type elections in other countries only the top two or three vote getting candidates make it to the general election.
#2 - The idea in California to give the electoral votes based on district winners. I think this should happen in every state. Its unfare that if you win a state by one vote you get all the points in the electoral college. This silences the places like upstate NY because of NYC. It also silences Atlanta because of the rest of the state. All in all it makes candidates have to be responsible to MORE people and go to everywhere in each state.
I dont like going with an overall popular vote directly, since I think it would make it harder to detect and fix election fraud. This way you can look at each district individually.

Nothing like that. America desperately needs Jesus. Go to church and pray to our Heavenly Father to save America from the hands of the wicked (Political leader's).
Matthew 12: 43 When an evil spirit comes out of a man, it goes through arid places seeking rest and does not find it. (44) Then it says, "I will return to the house I have left." When it arrives, it finds the house unoccupied, swept clean and put in order. (45) Then it goes and takes with it seven other spirits more wicked than itself, and they go in and live there. And that final condition of that man is worse than the first. That is how it will be with this wicked generation.

They need to do away with the electoral college and just run elections by popular vote. The EC is a big waste of everybody's time and money. They also need to make big changes to medicine.

The checks and balance system is enforced and always has been. Just because it doesn't land in your favor doesn't mean it's broken.
