Anyone agree?
It pisses me off when I hear people speaking in their own language when you know damn well they are only doing it to hide what they are saying!!

I think it's rude also.
Also, don't you think the word "ignorant" is the most over-used word in the English language? It sure is on Y!A.

It depends on the situation as to whether it is rude or not. If it is in a work situation where a couple of people speak the foreign language in addition to english but others do not then it is indeed rude and disrespectful.
It really depends on their motive, simply talking in the foreign language in front of english speakers isn't necessarily rude.
However, I know of a specific example where an english speaker did not let on that he understood the foreign language all the while listening to people making derogatory comments about him. Only later did he reveal his proficiency in spanish in that case: He was their boss, and never mentioned that though he was causcasian, he was raised in a central american country. So sometimes the tables can be turned.

Umm..well you speak 2 languages, and you never speak it in front of English speakers?? hard to believe.
Its not rude at all, its calld freedom of speech.hahaha
And this is not an official English speaking country. It has no official language becasue there are so many different races and languages.

Well, I speak Spanish, Hawaiian, English and Elvish. It doesn't bother me when other people talk different. I don't care because I'm continually talking dif, and ONLY in my opinion, you don't notice it, but some people think speaking English when in the presence of a Hawaiian is rude, it just depends, everyone is different. Some people just take it different.

It depends on the situation. I think its rude if people that have migrated here don't bother to learn the language and then just go on benefits and live of my tax money! If it is people over for a holiday then thats different or if they are in their own homes. It is rude though when you can tell that they are talking about you!

if you could speak in a foreign language, you probably would as well. there is nothing wrong with it....
and the statement you make is a blanket statement.. you suppose that everyone who speaks in a foreign language is trying to hide something....i'm bilingual....because i took spanish since I was in kindergarten...i'm now 27. so i can pick up on other people's conversations and you know what, i haven't heard anything rude or something to hide yet....maybe they're just comfortable speaking in their native tongue. get over it...

That is a very immature comment. When I hear people talking in another language than mine, I wish I could speak it.
When immigrants come to another country, it is easier for them to converse with people who speak their language. Think of it this way, if you were in, let's say Somalia, and you could speak the language poorly, would you not speak in English to other English speaking people?

It is correct since, you are speaking English, the person you are talking to is supposed and opted to respond in English. However, there is an exception: WHAT IF THE PERSON YOU ARE TALKING TO DOES NOT KNOW TO SPEAK ENGLISH?? But in a larger sense, it is really rude since they might be talking of you as stupid or something like that....

Anyone organizing on traveling to a Spanish-speaking nation sometime in the subsequent months or so have to make a program so that can make a dissent conversation in Spanish or just to recognize when individuals talk to them since by the time your trip rolls around you need to be conversationally fluent or pretty near to it with the support
