hello
im 12 ( turning 13 in December )
and lately ive been wondering one question. Why do we live? If we are just meant to die, then why live. Im not depressed or anything, just wondering. If we are to die then why live. If we live, then we just reproduce to make more people who will wonder the same thing. A cycle goes on of life and death. If we live just to bring happiness to the next generation then once we die, that happiness goes away and is replaced with mourning and sadness. Then whenever someone thinks of you they will just feel sad and wish you were just there.
So my question again is Why do we live?
and plz no 1 word answers at least 2 sentences or more will do .

I believe in god
but i dont believe the only reason we live is to serve him ok.
I dont believe that this entity controls our lives and decides what we do and how life will turn out for us.

The same reason a ball bounces then stops.
The same reason a flower blossoms then dies.
The same reason the grass turns green every spring, and then fades to brown in the fall.
The same reason the snow melts, and raindrops fall, yet return from whence they came.
The universe is really ran by cause and effect, this creates change, time.
In cause and effect, there is matter it becomes one thing and then changes to another.
There are simple things in this world like a grain of sand, and complex things like your human life.
What you must realize is that everything changes form. Just as there is still ink even after it has left the pen, there is still spirit after it has left the body.
You may speculate about the spirit, but that electricity flowing through you right now, keeping your brain animate, is your spirit. Think about a happy memory, you are not seeing that with your eyes, but with your mind's eye, which is your spirit and your brain coexisting.
Roll some dice for awhile until you get a wanted number (which =Consciousness), that's what life is.
We live because the people before lived. And they lived because the people before them lived, so on until we get to the earth first forming, taking position in the correct coordinates with the vague potential of letting simple matter evolve, adapt and survive, making it all the more complex.
Comment:
Christa is only telling you that much, becuase your brain is innocent enough to be brainwashed. Trust me I've been there.
A selected few chilrden in Iraq are told by there parents that any 1 who is not islamic should be dead. These are the children who later become suicidal terrorits, in Al-qaeda.
The innocence of a child's mind, can be influenced with ANYTHING!
You must realize the difference between rational, and irrational, and realize that there are always two sides of a coin.

Excellent question.
This question is really why philosophy exists.
Nobody here can answer it in two sentences. I've got piles of books that would reach to the ceiling written by learned philosophers, over centuries, that wouldn't necessarily answer this question for everybody or anybody. Philosophy is a long-term, on-going quest.
However, Philosophy is also a mother of invention, and, married to Mathematics, led to the birth of Cosmology and the rest of Science in an attempt to answer this very question.
Study hard. We humans need your input. I'm glad to see strong minds out there like yours, ready to take up the task. I encourage you, because your capability of thought is strong.
Short answer: Because we are, and after we're dead, we won't be able to even consider such a question. And, in the mean time, some of us don't want to be vegetables.

Cause we are part of the great circle of life, and thankfully not the food chain. That is just a fact of life, to live and die. But I don't want people to feel sad for me, I want them to be happy for the good life I lived.

Well, to me, I think we are someone hope, like our parent's hope. We live because other want us to live. We live because somebody out there need our help. We live to shape the world, to discover new thing, to end suffering. When we die, it doesn't mean everything is end, to me, I think it's a new begining, no one can escape dying. We have our limit, if we want to live forever, then we are too greedy. Like a person say "Oh, I don't want to live because I'll die anyway"..Well I don't like that statement, everybody here have something, they have their own purpose to live. Some people still don't know what is their purpose..what a pity

"Living" and mere existence are not the same. The life you describe, born, breed, die, (the circle of life) is how animals exist. It is unique to humans to want our children to live better lives than we do. "Living" is the struggle to make the world a better place, even if just for a few loved ones. You will see

We are alive because we are part of the circle of life. We are here for casualty and not by the decision of a supreme entity. Life is an opportunity. Enjoy !

Hello, you thinker there!! Here is the simplest possible answer to the most difficult question (so difficult that in order to answer it, people generally feel the need to either escape the essence or lean on the concept of God).
We live because we want to live... and we want to live in order to fulfill our desires.... momentary and ordinary desires define our day-to-day life and deeper long term desires set the purpose of our life. Experience shows that we feel better satisfied pursuing our longer term or deeper desires.
My conclusion therefore is that we live in order to fulfill our deeper desires. Unless we identify them and work towards fulfilling them, we would end up feeling as though we wasted our precious life.

There is a reason why each one of us is here. you have to find your own answer.
For me, I save a drowning man once, and if God had put me into this world, I guess that was why I haved live till then:- to be able to be of significance to that someone.

although it may seem like that(that's what i wonder sometimes), the truth is we were created by God to fulfill our mission through him. Our life's main purpose, which many disagree, is to serve Jesus. See, life seems more fulfilled for me than some teens my age(not saying that no one can have a fun life) because i have a purpose in life and i am not just wondering around. My purpose is to share the word of Jesus christ and follow in his word. if any of this sounds offensive, i didn't intend for that. sorry if it does.
