Senator Kucinich has proposed a Department of Peace... to study ways of interacting globally with diplomacy. We already spend trillions of dollars on the War Department.. and nobody's saying we'd dismantle our defenses.. tell me what is so stupid about trying to plan for peace? Maybe its time we grow up, leave the cave behind, and stop hitting each other with sticks and stones. We live in a very small, very fragile world and war takes our youngest and best hope for the future

This idea is a reason why Dennis Kucinich is a low tier candidate. We already have a dept in the government that does this...it is called the State department and as a congressman Kucinich should know that. Whether you feel it does its job well or not is irregardless, when you look at its mission statement....

Mission Statement:
Create a more secure, democratic, and prosperous world for the benefit of the American people and the international community.

Talk about a waste of money. The government should be looking for ways to get smaller, not bigger.

Your heart is in the right place, but the answer to our problems is not MORE government.

Remember the founders and the conscience of the revolution Thomas Paine who said it best...

"Government, even in its best state, is but a necessary evil; in its worst state, an intolerable one."

As others have said, the Department of State should be responsible for the administration of U.S. foreign affairs, using peaceful and diplomatic tactics as much as reasonably possible. The problem (well, one of the many problems . . . .) is that Condoleezza Rice is the Secretary of State, and Rice serves as a puppet to the PNAC neocons. The Secretary of State before Rice, who, ironically, was somewhat better with peaceful diplomacy, was Colin Powell. You remember him, the career military man who rubber-stamped the fiasco we now loosely refer to as "The Iraq War."

Face it, department labels mean nothing. GW Bush could create a Department of Peace (apart from the Department of State), staff it with more of his pro-war cronies, and use it to drum up more aggressive, expensive, and futile military campaigns -- and some people would want to give him a Nobel Prize for doing so.

As said we have a State Dept.. We don't need any more Government. We have the U.N. , which is completely impotent.
Condie Rice is a big joke. The Mid East leaders laugh at any woman who talks to them. As hard as it is for you Peaceniks to understand , some countries you cannot love into doing the just and moral thing.

This is really just a matter of political marketing; we already have diplomats and engage in trade and talks and joint projects all over the world.

The only thing wrong with this is that the rest of us (the wiser half) would have to suffer along with the fools who would support this department. Now, if the U.S. were to split in two (say a Leftist U.S. with California and New England, vs. a standard U.S. with the rest of the states), I'd say let the leftist side waste their dollars on the Department of Peace.

Every state and county has a public health department ('department of health'), yet the U.S. is 41st in life expectancy in the world and we spend more on health-care than any other nation ever.

This idea is a marketing/political ploy to appeal to the gullible. Congratulations - you fell for it.

Wouldn't even need it if we were to return to a silver and gold standard in this country. Listen to the armed forces as well. Who are most donating to? And they really can't afford it, but by god they're doing it.
