trick question, maybe, because maybe by our thinking we are determining things ourselves, maybe the outcome is really our fate as well, due to our thinking we our determining things.

I think we basically affect the outcome ourselves, a bit of luck and positive thinking we strive ourselves to work towards our goal, but fate I have less and less trust in especially of late.

I believe that our genetics, combined with our environment, secretly guide our actions, and free will is not really even a factor. In other words, the decisions each person makes are the decisions that his/her genes and learned experiences dictate. The "fates" of all others being the same, work cohesively with everybody else's in the complex flow of everyday experience.
