The first answer is partially correct. The youngest preemie to ever survive was born about 9 months or so ago at 21 weeks 6 days (So basically 22 weeks), but they will not be able to determine until she is older if she will have any problems. I did see an article in People magazine a few months ago when she was 6 months old and she was a cute little butterball.

Brandy. I am sorry about your twins. My husband and I lost a baby girl last Aug at 21 weeks 2 days.

I artwork in neonatal healthcare. The earliest I actual have seen a toddler be born and stay to tell the tale is at 23+3 weeks gestation. the final public of the youngsters born that gestation do no longer stay to tell the tale. The few that do constantly have profound and everlasting medical issues, and undergo months of painful and in intensity medical care just to get them that some distance. the final public of youngsters born i've got seen in strengthen are born between 33 to 37 weeks (38 - 40 two weeks is seen term). the final public (some 60-ninety%) of those stay to tell the tale and inspite of the fact that most of the 33-36 weekers want some point well being middle care, it incredibly is regularly much less in intensity than for the 24 weekers, and contained as regards to the 35-37 weekers won't be needed in any respect if the toddler is a solid weight and sufficiently properly. the probabilities are high that in the time of the experience that your toddler is born somewhat early, s/he would be completely superb. the probabilities of having an somewhat untimely labour are particularly small with cutting-edge medical and ante-natal care.

The foetus is first considered viable in Australia at 24 weeks - it is still very difficult to survive outside the womb at this stage. I think the stats are about 25% of babies survive, and of those 25%, 25% again experience no lasting complications. Every week counts from 24 onwards - by the time you get to 28 weeks, the baby's chances are much better and by 30 weeks your baby has an excellent chance of normal development. Good luck!
