My sixteen year old cousin got arrested for shoplifting a few months ago, (please don't judge) and she was instructed by the court to take a shoplifting-prevention class by the 26th of August. She is signed up to take the class on the 25th, and we want to know if she needs to mail/fax in her certificate of completion by the next day, or if it is mostly important that she does it by then??????
We appreciate any and all answers!! THANK YOU!

Just to be safe, I'd do both, I would have her attend the class, fax the certificate of completion and then mail a copy with a return receipt requested. So often , people end up in the "red tape" game and it ends up your word agains theirs, so always DOCUMENT, DOCUMENT, DOCUMENT just for your own safety and sanity. Good Luck and give your cousin an extra big hug, she'll grow out of this age and stage soon enough....love her through the mistakes she'll make and the growing pains.

You need to call the court in your jurisdiction. Each county and city court operates within its own rules and bureaucracy so no strangers from far away cannot answer your question correctly. You DONT want to make a mistake by getting bad advice.

It sounds to me like she'll be safe by taking the class by then. But if I were her, I would definitely post mark the documents by the 26th if they have to be mailed.

Her court paper should say "take" or "complete" the class by the certain date. If any issues, you need to clarify it with the court.

The people who run the class will tell her. They handle the same kind of thing everyday. Relax, don't anticipate everything.
