If you don't care about the LENGTH of the word, only how common it is, the answer could be the word "A" (ranking only behind 'the', 'of' and 'and' in a typical word frequency list).

If a one-letter word won't quite do, next down the frequency list that is all in alphabetical order is
IT (followed by IS).

But I'm guessing what you are after is the LONGEST common word whose letters are all in alphabetical order. In that case:

There are a few words with letters all in alphabetical order that are seven letters long, and one that is eight (aegilops), but the longest "everyday" words of this sort are all six letters long.

Among these, the MOST common (that is, most often used in English writing and speech) is:

ALMOST

Here is a list of 20 more such words that you might reasonably expect to find in "ordinary" English, with the six that appear to be THE most common ones listed first:

accent, accept, access, begins, effort, floors

abcess, abhors, accost, adders, bellow, biopsy, chills, chilly, chimps, choosy, choppy, floppy, glossy, knotty

NOTES:

1) I determined "most common" based on word frequency lists linked at this page:
http://www.comp.lancs.ac.uk/ucrel/bncfreq/flists.html

2) There are over 50 more six-letter words that will work, most of them uncommon, a few of which many people would know. For most of these, as well as most of the seven-letter ones see: http://www.sanjeev.net/wordplay/Letters-in-alphabetical-order.html
