i think its fin rot because the fins look almost gone on my smaller gold fish but my older and bigger fish just has chips or his fins are jagged ill try the antibacterial first but when can i use the salt?

I agree, just use the meds not the salt. Salt is really only going to help clear up ich or a true fungal infection. And, usually with bacterial infections you don't want to turn the heat up, makes them worse. Turning the heat up is good for parasite infectons though.

Damaged fins usually indicate fin rot or nipping from your other fish. I would use the anti bacterial medication by itself, if you are unsure if it is fin rot i would suggest a multi purpose remedy and also turning the aquarium light off helps to reduce the amount of stress they suffer and aids in a speedy recovery. Some stress coat wouldnt hurt either .

You can, but to be honest the salt won't be of any real help if you are treating for fin rot. For this particular disease and treatment, I would suggest leaving it out.

It's best to call your local vet or the store you got the fish from. Usually they have helpful information.

You bet. You can also raise the water temperature a tad to help speed healing.
